NorthStar Gaming has named Corey Goodman as the company’s Chief Executive Officer on a permanent basis, eight months after he took up the position in an interim capacity.

Goodman stepped in as temporary CEO of the NorthStar Bets operator last December, when founding partner Michael Moskowitz left his roles as chief executive and board chair.

NorthStar Gaming said in a press release on Monday, Aug. 17, that Goodman has led the company through a period of “financial and operational stabilization” as well as efforts to resolve outstanding audit and reporting matters.

“On behalf of the board, I am pleased to confirm Mr. Goodman as NorthStar’s Chief Executive Officer,” said NorthStar Gaming’s Chair of the Board Dean MacDonald, who was named chair at the time of Moskowitz’s departure. “Corey has brought focus and discipline to the Company at a pivotal time, and the Board has full confidence in his leadership as NorthStar completes its outstanding financial reporting and continues to strengthen the business.”

NorthStar Gaming seeks to ease financial worries

At the time of Moskowitz’s exit and Goodman’s promotion in December, NorthStar Gaming was attempting to navigate financial difficulties.

In late November, the company, which owns and operates the NorthStar Bets casino and sportsbook platform in Ontario and also provides managed services elsewhere in Canada, posted a net loss of C$13.7m for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2025. A financial release warned that its cash flow and liquidity position may not be enough to fund its expenses while also meeting all of its debt agreements, and that the firm may need to make operational adjustments or take on additional debt or equity financing.

The company has not held an earnings call since late 2025, but said in February that it was conducting “a disciplined operating plan” to progress towards profitability through advertising efficiency, operating leverage, and cost management. That plan included attempts to save C$3m in annualized general and administrative cost savings through measures such as layoffs and other cutbacks across the company.

Meanwhile, trading of shares of the Toronto Stock Exchange-listed company has been suspended since May under orders from the Ontario Securities Commission after NorthStar Gaming failed to file audited financial statements and other documentation. In July, NorthStar appointed Davidson & Company LLP as its new auditor after the previous auditor, KPMG, resigned effective May 29, 2026.

Is Alberta iGaming still on NorthStar’s roadmap?

NorthStar Gaming owns and operates the NorthStar Bets casino and sportsbook platform. Powered by Playtech, which is NorthStar’s largest single shareholder, NorthStar Bets has been a licensed operator in Ontario since 2022.

Outside of Canada’s only regulated commercial iGaming province of Ontario, it provides managed services to the NorthStarBets.com iGaming site that is owned and operated by the Conseil des Abénakis de Wôlinak and licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.

Under Moskowitz, the company expressed enthusiasm for entering a regulated iGaming market in Alberta.

“Alberta is a very exciting opportunity,” Moskowitz said on an earnings call 12 months ago. “As we look at the next opportunity outside of the rest-of-Canada piece, the regulated Alberta market for us is the key attribute. The healthier our business becomes in Ontario and the rest of Canada, the more fuel we have for launching and creating demand in the exciting market of Alberta.”

Although Alberta’s regulated market finally opened on July 13, NorthStar Gaming is not listed as a registrant by Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC) as of Aug. 18. Canadian Gaming Business reached out to Goodman and NorthStar Gaming seeking an update on the company’s plans for Alberta iGaming.

“Alberta remains a market of interest to us, but our focus right now is on completing our outstanding audits and continuing to strengthen our Ontario business,” Goodman said in an email. “We are not in a position to share specifics or timing on Alberta at this stage. If and when that changes, we will communicate through our regular disclosure channels.”

Operator makes other C-suite changes

As well as Goodman’s permanent appointment, NorthStar Gaming announced on Monday that Chin Dhushenthen has resigned as Chief Financial Officer after five years at the company, effective immediately. Dhushenthen will continue to serve in an advisory capacity to support continuity through the completion of the company’s outstanding audits.

Longtime NorthStar financial leader Ben Powell has stepped in as Interim CFO. Elsewhere, former Head of Legal, Compliance & Regulatory Strategy at absolutebet, Krisztina Kalla, is NorthStar’s new Vice President of Compliance, wherein she will be responsible for the company’s regulatory compliance function.

“I am confident that the strengthened finance and compliance functions will serve the company well as we move forward,” added Goodman.
