Loto-Quebec Taking Lottery Products Online

This month, Loto-Quebec launched its online sales of lottery products. The initiative sees the arrival of Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, Quebec 49, Banco, and Extra products to Loto-Quebec's online gaming website, espacejeux.com. Consumers will also have access to purchase tracking, updates, and other customized features.

According to Loto-Quebec, the addition of web-based lottery products will continue to benefit brick-and-mortar retailers as consumers have the option of designating a retailer during their online purchase, with that retailer receiving the same commission as they would have received in-store. If no retailer is selected, a percentage of the purchase is still passed on to all retailers on a pro-rated basis to their sales of the products.

“Following discussions and meetings over the past months, we were happy to note that the public corporation took our concerns into account,” said Yves Servais, General Manager of the Association des marchands dépanneurs et épiciers du Québec (AMDEQ) in Loto-Quebec's press release. “The AMDEQ is, therefore, pleased to see that Loto-Québec has included retailers in the online sale project of certain lottery products. Loto-Québec recognizes the importance of retailers in the sale of lottery products in Québec.”

Martine Hébert, Vice-President of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) for Québec added: “it is important to consider the interests of small retailers, as they play an essential role in lottery sales. We are therefore pleased to know that they will receive a percentage of online lottery sale revenues.”

To buy lottery products online, consumers are instructed to register an account with Espacejeux, after which they will able to make their purchases over a computer, smartphone, or tablet. More information can be found at www.espacejeux.com.
