It takes more than just bells and whistles to keep consumers engaged in slots. CGB asked manufacturers to share the new products and innovations they're using to secure success on the gaming floor in 2011.

SPIELO
Ken Bossingham, COO, ATRONIC Americas

This year, ATRONIC and SPIELO expect Canadian operators to seek products that stand out from traditional slot video entertainment. For example, we anticipate an increased emphasis on specialized content, and in many cases we expect that content to be integrated with powerful brands. That said, with our new linked community game, DEAL OR NO DEAL™ Join'N Play™, we'll continue to develop other innovative approaches with licensing partners, including brands found outside traditional media.

Some games are bursting with features and functions that may confuse and unintentionally drive away core player segments. That's why SPIELO and ATRONIC are focusing part of its 2011 portfolio on innovative but easy-to-understand games. Our current portfolio features diverse titles that ensure core players, as well as the next generation of players, are well-served. For example, game families like Bigger Bet Bonus™ and Cashpot™, multigame products like Cash Eruption™, and feature-rich community games like Join'N Play, provide diverse appeal so that multiple player segments can be equally engrossed in the game whether they're high-stakes gamblers or low-volatility players.

WMS Gaming
Candace Lucas, Executive Director of Marketing Operations

WMS Gaming is debuting a number of innovative and exciting slot machine products in casinos across the country including its Ultra Hit Progressive™ (UHP) portal application family, and two new game themes: THE PRICE IS RIGHT® The Ultimate Show™ and ATTACK FROM MARS™.

In THE PRICE IS RIGHT® The Ultimate Show™, the Local Area Progressive bonuses immerse players in the classic show by selecting a lucky player to experience one of four exciting bonus levels. In ATTACK FROM MARS™, WMS' newest Sensory Immersion game, players choose to defend Earth as humans or help destroy it as Martians by playing through two “Wild” features and four comical bonus levels.

UHP adds a secondary mystery progressive bonus experience to the base game while providing gaming operators the ability to change the manner in which secondary bonus experiences are enjoyed through an intuitive back-of-house user interface. What's more, the UHP application advertises imminent jackpots on the base game screen, the gaming cabinet’s top screen, and on strategically located signage. As coin-in increases and progressive triggers are approached, UHP incorporates stronger visuals and amplified ambient sounds to celebrate the big win. The UHP portal family currently includes the Jackpot Explosion™ theme, featuring an exploding volcano; and the Piggy Bankin™ theme, featuring a swelling and cracking piggy bank graphic.

IGT
Duane Frahm, IGT Canada Managing Director

IGT is dedicated to creating innovative gaming experiences. Some of the latest games to join the IGT lineup feature groundbreaking interaction and thrilling game play. For example, IGT’s new award-winning Reel Edge™ series of games brings skill to the casino floor. With this, spinning-reel players can stop the reels in an attempt to create wins and use an arcade-style joystick to control the outcome of the 100 percent skill-based bonuses in the top box. The Reel Edge™ caters to an untapped, emerging demographic (ages 21-44) who have grown up controlling their gaming experience, as well as players seeking something out of the ordinary. The Reel Edge™ series of games includes the vampire-inspired Blood Life™ and Red White & Blue Falling Stars™.

The IGT Hot Roll slot features exciting new, physics-driven “Hot Roll” action. When the Hot Roll feature is activated, the player rolls the virtual dice by touching them on the MLD® monitor and throwing them across the screen. As part of IGT’s next generation of MLD® spinning-reel games, Hot Roll features IGT’s new virtual rounded reels with unique 3D action that spins out at the player and mimics the look, sound and feel of real mechanical reels.

Bally Technologies
Mike Trask, Corporate Communications Manager

Bally Technologies is taking the trend toward interactive gaming one step further with its award-winning U-Spin™ gesture-control play mechanic. First introduced on the popular Cash Spin, U-Spin is activated during bonus sequences and gives players the chance to spin the bonus wheel on the touch-screen display as if it were an actual wheel.

Bally followed up Cash Spin with Hot Spin™, which allows players to pick of one of six symbols that trigger how often they’ll be awarded the U-Spin Wheel feature. Players can customize their playing experience to suit their betting style or budget by picking a symbol. Some hit more often, with lower pay; and others hit less often, with higher pays.

U-Spin is also featured on Vegas Hits™, the industry’s only double-wheel U-Spin game. It features a topper resembling the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign.

Many Bally Technologies games on the new Pro Series™ cabinets feature the award-winning iDeck™, a groundbreaking touch-screen technology that replaces traditional button decks on slot machines. iDeck turns the point of physical contact between the player and the device into an interactive channel. Players explore new dimensions in multi-touch skill-based bonus games, mini-games, and virtual shooting galleries.
