Cash is king on the casino floor, and managing that cash quickly and without error is paramount to an operator's success. With the Bank of Canada set to release newly designed polymer film notes in the near future, Canadian Gaming Business magazine asked bill validators and printer manufacturers to show us what they're doing to meet these future challenges.

CashCode/Crane Canada

Nishit Shah, Product Manager

Crane Payment Solutions aims to continue CashCode’s success in the global marketplace. Starting this year, the Bank of Canada plans to introduce durable polymer film notes for all denominations of Canadian banknotes – the CashCode oneTM is already designed to handle this new currency.

“We want to ensure our customers that we are well positioned to provide software updates to allow for a smooth transition when the new banknotes are introduced in November,” said Sim Bielak, Vice President of Sales & Business Development for Crane Payment Solutions.

CashCode oneTM is fully capable of handling up to 80 banknotes at a time. Every CashCode oneTM validator is equipped with additional sensor technology such as magnetic and dielectric sensors to detect not only the images on the banknotes but the specific properties incorporated into the magnetic portions and the holographic strip. Thistechnology allows operators to provide secure solutions against counterfeit banknotes and to achieve higher acceptance rates on gaming machines. Also equipped on the CashCode oneTM are beltless and recessed bill paths; auto calibration algorithms; a drop proof cashbox; and ease of upgrade option, which helps operators reduce overall cost of ownership.

The oneCheckTM “no up-charge” intelligent cashbox solution also has the ability to create tool free performance reports, helping to increase operational efficiencies and uptime of slot machines.

Cummins-Allison

Harry Patrinos, Managing Director, Canada

Cummins-Allison Corp introduces the innovative JetScan iFXTM currency scanner, a next generation scanner that increases productivity and lowers operating costs. With the JetScan iFX, gaming properties will realize faster currency processing speeds and an extremely low note rejection rate, thereby boosting productivity in the count room or at the cages.

The JetScan iFX uses state-of-the-art imaging technology to denominate and authenticate notes. This technology enables processing speeds up to 1,000 notes per minute for Canadian currency with minimal rejection rates, while also taking an image of every note’s serial number at the same time. One possible application would be to maintain a serial number database of money processed from each cashier and gaming table. In the event counterfeit notes are later found, each can be traced back to the source and potential problems can be monitored and curtailed.

The JetScan iFX currency scanner will also easily process the new polymer-based Canadian notes. One of the most common concerns with notes incorporating polymer is static. Cummins-Allison addresses this issue by using static dissipating components throughout the JetScan iFX. These components, standard on the JetScan iFX, have been used optionally on numerous Cummins-Allison products to process polymer-based currency in countries such as Australia, Mexico and New Zealand, with no problems whatsoever. Cummins-Allison has worked closely with the Bank of Canada during the design of the new currency to ensure that Cummins equipment will process the new notes quickly, accurately and problem-free.

Futurelogic Printers

Nick Micalizzi, FutureLogic’s VP of Domestic Sales & Marketing

FutureLogic recently introduced its next-generation GEN3 Evolution® ticket printer. The printer offers an optional on-board promotional system module, creating a separate and secure processing environment for TITO and promotional couponing. It also offers: • Easy, reliable direct system connection over an Ethernet (TCP/IP) interface;

• Photographic-quality printing;
• Large 450-ticket capacity tray;
• Ability to print-and-present tickets in less than one second; and
• An optional expansion card providing 32GB of additional memory

The GEN3 Evolution printer is designed to keep pace with current – and future – demands of server-based gaming, promotional couponing and the continually evolving TITO market. The printer’s game ports include USB 2.0 (GSA, GDS, SPC/IGT, SBG) RS-232 and Netplex. Promotional ports include Ethernet, USB 2.0 and RS-232. To facilitate couponing, the printer features a PBSTM Programmable Bursting Scheme that can be used to burst single or multiple coupons directly into the player’s hand during or after a play session. Like the GEN2TM series of printers, the GEN3 Evolution offers the Intelligent Bezel system to eliminate paper jams, and ITH® Intelligent Ticket Handling, which ensures tickets are only available after they are fully printed and burst.

FutureLogic also offers the PromoNet® Promotional Couponing Solution. With its unique ability to create campaigns for both carded and non-carded players, the PromoNet solution can help casinos boost club membership and reach out to all players.

By directly linking promotional campaigns to specific player actions, activities or behaviour, the GEN2 Universal and GEN3 printers become multi-functional marketing tools. The PromoNet solution allows casinos to automatically trigger a marketing campaign based on game play metrics, player tracking information, POS systems and redemption terminals. This gives casino marketers the ability to issue a coupon at the game to attract and retain customers. For players, these offers provide valued savings and incentives, thereby enhancing their casino/resort experience.

JCM Global

Tom Nieman, VP of Global Marketing

JCM Global introduces two new products to its line. First is the VIZION(r) bill validator featuring Contact Image Sensor (CIS) Technology, 99%+ acceptance rate, diligent counterfeit protection, RFID ICB cashbox with encrypted and web- enabled data, 64 megabit FLASH memory, a self-calibrating sensor package, modular component design, and the ability to read barcodes horizontally and vertically. It also sports two high- speed processors, sealed 85mm banknote path, patented and proven removable stacker mechanism, "Blind Mate" and "Hot Swap" design, and complete compatibility with all gaming protocols.

Next is the new PayCheck 4 thermal printer, featuring ticket print speeds of just 0.6 seconds. The PayCheck 4 is so fast, there's no need to rely on a 'burst, like other printers. In addition, PayCheck 4 has a lifespan of approximately 640,000 slot-type tickets.

Lastly, JCM Global consults with governments around the world on new currency development, and JCM is already working on software that will accommodate new Canadian note designs as they are released. JCM also works closely with its operator clients to ensure software is upgraded seamlessly with as little downtime as possible.

MEI

JeanMarie Decker, Marketing Manager

MEI has introduced SC AdvanceTM, the next generation product of CASHFLOW® SC designed to further raise the bar of performance expectations, and drive improvements in both the player experience and operator profitability.

SC Advance's enhancements include: • Improved recognition system, which provides proactive security by utilizing transmissive sensors to see all the way through notes in multiple wavelengths. • Faster bill-to-bill speed, which upgrades the player experience and speeds up transactions to expand throughput. • Expanded memory, which limits part numbers and submissions by allowing more notes to be recognized in a specific release of firmware. • Comprehensive barcode recognition, which processes barcode

coupons in all four directions and improves acceptance on multi-width currencies. Because the enhancements are localized to the acceptor head,

SC Advance can work hand-in-hand with legacy CASHFLOW SC units already in the field. This capability is facilitated by intelligent support tools that will be able to sense the product version and provide the appropriate software.

MEI CASHFLOW SC and SC Advance will both be programmed to accept the new polymer notes that Canada is introducinglaterthisyear. MEIhasdevelopedastrongreputation in the Australian market where its products have been accepting polymer currency since 1992 when Australia introduced a full set of polymer currency.

Through Canada’s transition to a full polymer note set over the next few years, MEI products will be able to offer high acceptance rates and security, utmost jam performance and a low cost of ownership while accepting paper and polymer notes.
