As if its resort amenities, state-of-the-art games and breathtaking view from atop the cliffs of Point-au-Pic weren't already enough to leave a lasting impression, Quebec's Casino de Charlevoix recently put the finishing touches on a facility-wide multimedia upgrade designed to turn heads at the tables and bring a whole new dimension to its gaming floor.

Last October, the casino wrapped up installation of a brand new multimedia system that combines interactive tactile, audio and visual technologies to create an ever-changing, interactive, and always exciting environment for its clientele.

The system is comprised of five main components including a video wall featuring 27, 46-inch HD screens; ten, 360 degree projectors that cover over 330 square meters of display space; a transparent holographic screen developed to create eye-popping visuals on the gaming floor; a touch-screen interactive table with 32 points of contact; and one of the systems most outwardly noticeable features - an illuminated display made up of 1,920 independent light emitting diodes (LED).  Combined, these components work in concert to bolster the casino's overall atmosphere, image and dynamic messaging to its patrons. It also imparts greater control to casino management over changing the look and feel of its environment according to the time of day, specific occasions or casino promotions.

As impressive as these new additions may be for patrons, one of the true marvels of the casino's new multimedia setup is the software and technology that keeps it all in check. When it set out to implement a new, integrated multimedia system, the Casino de Charlevoix employed the Quebec firm, Moment Factory, to develop custom made XMS synchronization software that would cater solely to the specific needs of the casino. The result was the creation of one of the more complex systems of its kind, and one that is run daily by 17, highly optimized computers outfitted with i7 Intel processors.

To celebrate its new system, the casino recently launched a 'Break the Ice' promotion that will see patrons awarded with over $345,000 in prizes until November 16, 2011. The promotion makes full use of the casino's new multimedia system by engaging participants in interactive games. It will also include draws throughout the year.

A history of expansion

The Casino de Charlevoix and its adjoining historic hotel, the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, are no stranger to change and innovation. In 1998, just four years after the casino's inauguration, Loto-Québec  engaged in a partnership with the Canadian Pacific Hotels and the Fonds de solidarité des travailleurs du Québec for a $140 million renovation of both the hotel and casino. Expansion continued throughout the years since, and has included additional renovations to the hotel, its outdoor facilities, gaming technologies and casino entertainment.

Currently, the casino sits at 87,000 square feet and sports 1,165 gaming stations, more than 940 slot machines, 25 gaming tables and shared entertainment and business spaces with the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. Since opening in 1994, it has attracted over 15 million guests and done its part to spark significant job growth within the region.

Multi-media celebration

All said, the Casino de Charlevoix's new multimedia system is the latest addition to an ever evolving facility - additions that Loto-Québec believes will go a long way towards creating greater buzz for one of Quebec's most popular gaming facilities.

“This is something different, something unique. There's nothing we can compare it to in the rest of North America, so we're really proud of that uniqueness,” says Marilyne Desrochers, Senior Media relations Office with Loto-Québec, adding, “It's the future; right here, right now.”
