BetRegal Hoping to Establish an HQ in North Bay, Ont.
September 8, 2021
BetRegal CEO Mike Mirtl is hoping to establish some form of headquarters in his hometown of North Bay, Ont. to help support the local gaming industry and community as Canada's sports betting market expands.
The online sportsbook and casino brand has had a banner year since joining the Canadian Gaming Association at the start of 2021.
Now, Mirtl is hoping to return to North Bay and bring his sports gaming brand with him.
"Our office is here in Costa Rica, Malta, and Curacao," explained Mirtl to BayToday. "In total, we have about 200 people employed in customer contact and support, development and marketing roles."

Mirtl, who left banking for offshore gaming 16 years ago, still owns property in North Bay and has also created a local business relationship with King Sportswear, which is providing promotional material for BetRegal.
"My idea is to support the local economy however I can," Mirtl added.
While he does not have a firm number on how many people he could employ if he opened a BetRegal Canada office in North Bay, he has designs on setting up some kind of HQ.
"What I would envision is we would set up some kind of contact centre in North Bay and I could employ [people] from Nipissing University or people from the Canadore Athletic Department, or part-time employees. That would be ideal for me: to have sort of a home base and a place that we call home and where better than in my backyard? That is my idea, hopes, and expectations."
Mirtl hopes things can move forward as soon as 2022.
"We hope we can do that in relatively short order because again this legislation and this licensing process we expect before the end of the year that we will be able to have a license and be able to hit the ground running," he said.
Mirtl is also planning a visit to the North Bay area looking to create some casino partnerships as he hopes to eventually bring his international company home.
BetRegal has already secured a landmark deal earlier this summer after officially launching in the Canadian market via a free-to-play sports betting platform BetRegal.net. The company secured status as the exclusive gaming partner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the PGA of Canada, and also partnered with three "BetRegal Legends" brand ambassadors: CFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks Damon Allen and Matt Dunigan and NHL legend Bernie Nicholls.
Mirtl emphasized that he hopes his company will soon secure a full license to operate in Canada, with the target of becoming licensed in Ontario by the end of the year.
"Ultimately the idea to be able to operate our business in Canada. [Being] under license really allows us to spread our wings a little bit and that is what is exciting for us," he said.
