BCLC Hosting Free Virtual Event on Canadian Sports Betting
January 18, 2021
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation is continuing its build-up to the virtual New Horizons in Responsible Gambling conference with another free, virtual pre-conference session, this time focusing on Canadian sports betting.
"Offense or Defense: What’s the RG Game Plan in the Sports Betting Playbook?" will be held on January 27 at 9 a.m. PST and will delve into the potential legalization of single-event sports betting in Canada.
The BCLC, says Bill C-13, touted to lead to legislation this year, will create "significant opportunity for legal Canadian operators and far-reaching impacts."
With the Bill currently being discussed in parliament, this session will feature several expert speakers across the industry who will offer their insights on where Canada stands with single-event sports betting, as well as where things could be heading, as well as the proactive responsible gambling and risk mitigation strategies that need to be considered.
The panel will be moderated by BCLC's Director of Player Health, Jamie Wiebe. Panelists will be Chris Grove, Gambling Industry Strategist and Partner at Eilers & Krejcik Gaming; Stewart Groumoutis, Director of eGaming Operations at BCLC; and Christine Thurmond, Director of Responsible Gaming at Draft Kings.
This session follows a previous BCLC pre-conference event on December 1, 2020 about the financial industry’s role in supporting safer gambling.
The New Horizons in Responsible Gambling conference is adapting its traditional format during the COVID-19 pandemic to shift to a two-day virtual conference in March 2021.
