AGCO Appoints Executive Director Responsible for Managing the Province's iGaming Market
February 10, 2021
The Board of Directors of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has announced the appointment of Martha Otton as Executive Director of the proposed AGCO subsidiary that will conduct and manage the new Ontario online gaming (iGaming) market.
Otton has been the AGCO’s Chief Strategy Officer for the past eight years. She will assume her new role on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
Otton's depth of experience in government and with the gaming sector will be a tremendous asset to the iGaming project, says the AGCO.
She will lead the work currently underway to develop and implement a world-leading, online gaming market under a new subsidiary of the AGCO which will be responsible for providing player protection, market oversight, and generating revenue for the Government of Ontario.
The subsidiary will complement the regulatory role that the AGCO delivers to Ontario. The appointment of a permanent Executive Director provides the additional momentum needed to move the project forward.

Otton is a tenured leader in the province, both as a long serving member of the AGCO executive team along with her previous Ontario Public Service career. During her eight years at the AGCO, the commission says her leadership abilities and vision for the agency have resulted in strategic regulatory policy, engagement, and data analytics capabilities in addition to her delivery of large, complex projects such as the iAGCO online licensing and registration system.
While her executive role is shifting away from AGCO proper, she will remain part of the organization overall.
"We are fortunate to be able to leverage Martha’s strong leadership, strategic foresight, and gaming sector knowledge as she builds the new subsidiary structure over the coming months, working closely with the AGCO as the regulator and with the AGCO Board," said Dave Forestell, Vice-Chair of the AGCO and Board lead for the new AGCO subsidiary.
